Norsk Musikkforlag (NM) is Norway’s leading independent music publisher. We represent composers, songswriters, lyricists and producers - working actively to ensure their music is heard, protected and valued. Our work spans four core areas: rights administration, creative partnershop, creative services and score publishing.
Administration & rights management
Rights management is complex - so we handle it for you. We register your works with PROs and rights organisations worldwide, manage all metadata, and ensure royalties are settled correctly. All types of rights enquiries are handled by us, including synchronisation, print, arrangements, interpolations, sampling, and translation. Through our network of sub-publishers, we collect royalties from every territory and make sure they reach you - wherever in the world your music is used.
Creative partnership
We are more than administrators - we are active creative partners. From the earliest stages of a project, we work alongside our writers to understand their artistic voice and define where they want to go. We build strategies, open doors, and make connections — with artists, labels, management, orchestras, and production companies, both nationally and internationally. We pitch songs, facilitate co-writes, and help our creators find the right collaborators at the right moment.
Creative services
From sync placements to large-scale dramatic works, we actively put your music to work across every medium and format. We pitch and license music for film, TV, advertising, games, and podcasts, and represent composers of original score music written specifically for screen and media productions. We handle clearance and negotiation for interpolations and sampling - in both directions. We also develop approved arrangements for choir, wind band, orchestra, and educational use, and administer opera, ballet, and music-dramatic works for stage productions and international co-productions.
Score publishing & graphic rights
Publishing music in notation is a discipline in its own right - and a core part of what we do. We offer professional score production from engraving and layout to quality control, and distribute editions via our own webshop, bookshops, and an international retailer network in both physical and digital formats. We manage orchestral and ensemble material hire for performances and festivals worldwide. We also handle secondary licensing of score excerpts and lyrics for books, teaching materials, advertising, and editorial use - and actively pursue any unauthorised use of the material we represent.
Licensing
Our licensing team handles requests to print, arrange or reproduce works from our catalogue — from individual sheet music reprints to larger publishing projects. We manage rights clearance on behalf of our composers and ensure each request is processed promptly and transparently.
